Route traced by Grup de Muntanya Bocairent
Leaving from the Ayuntamiento town hall square, follow the indications to the Santo Cristo chapel, until reaching the bridge. Before crossing over, turn off onto a small path on the left. This will take you into the Infern ravine and a few metres ahead you will see the first of four quarries; two of which are beside the river whilst the other two are higher up. You will find abandoned masonry, curious quarrying chisel marks and cavities where the workers sheltered.
Continue on and pass behind the Derrota farmstead, which is easy to identify thanks to the two towers crowning it. After 3 km you will arrive at a track, take it whilst turning towards the right in a northerly direction and walk on for another 2 km until you get to the Llobregat plain and the small house by the same name. Take the right hand path where you will see the slope taking you towards the chapel.
At this crossroads you will find the PR V-306 or “the route for fifty somethings”, which starts out at the road in Moixent leading to Aielo and ends at the Santo Cristo chapel in Bocairent. The chapel was built in the 16th century and comprises three buildings: the hostal which once served as the old baptistry, the chaplain´s house and the Gothic style church with its adjoining belltower.
From this point you can begin your return journey via the Stations of the Cross path, which zigzags its way down. Once below and just before the bridge you will pass by the “Esgoladora”, a shiny smooth rock used by children to slide down. Cross the bridge and you will find yourself back at the start of the route.
